FTC finds video game industry most effective ratings enforcer

The Federal Trade Commission recently conducted an undercover shopper survey to evaluate the music, film, and video game industries' rating systems and enforcement policies.

The FTC found the video game industry and ESRB ratings guide to be the most effective at regulating the sale of mature content to minors.

According to the FTC's study, 87% of underage teenage shoppers were prevented from purchasing mature rated video games.

The FTC commented,

"Video game retailers continue to enforce most vigorously the ratings governing age and content that were established by the entertainment media industry."

Did you read the study? Do you think it will persuade future lawmakers to stop trying to regulate computer and video games?
